This is the day of the week when we give a little attention to videos that have drowned in the information overflow to languish in people's personal queues. The rules for the 5th edition are a little different but very simple, so please read on.

Your submission (one pqueued video, not from your own pqueue) has to be based on the post before you. Someone posts a worthy vid to start with, the second poster gets his/her inspiration from that video (its title, its channels, a tag or something shown in the video) and posts a new interesting pqueued video based on that, etcetera.

Have you heard of Spotify? If not, research it!

It's a program that streams music in real-time, any song you want(95% are usually available), has search functions, and drag-drop playlists. When you click on the artist, it goes to the artist's page and gives you a list of all the albums he/she's ever been involved in including the top hits they've had, and the songs in those albums (which can also be drag/dropped into your playlist btw).

It also has a radio function. You choose the time period (from the before the 50's rangint to 00's) and the genre, then it plays random songs that fit in the categories you chose.

It's programmed SO well that it automatically detects the media keys on your laptop.

FURTHERMORE, once you create your username, it stores all your playlists server-side so wherever you log in in the world, it uploads your playlist to that version of Spotify.

Now the catch? It's free only if you are located in the UK or France, BUT don't fret! I know how to get around this little "problem."

Step 1. Find a good UK proxy. Easiest will be web-based, since you'll only have to use it to register. I used:

Step 2. Through the proxy, visit

Step 3. Register. You're going to need a UK postal code, the one I used is LS18 5AZ, but you might find another one on Google.

Step 4. Download the installer. It should give you a link, otherwise use

Step 5. Install it and enjoy your music. No need for any proxies or anything, you're just enjoying free music. One extra pro here is that if you listen to it through an unsupported country there are no ads!

One more thing. Logging into Spotify when you're NOT in the UK/France, you will have a 14 day period where it allows you to listen to their music, but once again, don't fret! There are two workarounds for this:

Spotify allows the use of proxies, so if you go into the proxy settings fo your Spotify, you can find a UK/French proxy that you can log into every 2 weeks or so.

The SECOND method is one I inadvertantly found myself (not sure how popular this is, and I'm hoping they don't fix it). You can use a firewall to block the incoming connections going into Spotify, which blocks the region-check part of the program.

VOILA! FREE SPOTIFY!

Ponceleon's Identify the Movie Challenge

Okay, so when I was a kid growing up in Puerto Rico, I remember seeing this weird movie when I was relatively young. As best as I can remember, this movie seemed to be something from before the 80s, though it might be early 80s at the latest. More likely though, this was something from either the 60s or 70s which had just been put on TV and dubbed into Spanish.

I don't know if this was a US film or not and worse, I only remember one scene:

At the very end of the movie, a man and a woman are put into this giant machine. The interior of the machine may have had throw pillows in it. When the machine is turned on, all sorts of 60s/70s psychedelic special effects happen and they are fused into one hermaphrodite-like being that walks out of the chamber to some macabre sounding music...

For some reason that scene always stuck with me, but I have never been able to identify the movie, likely some bad, seldom referenced sci-fi thingy.

A'ight sifters, have at it. Remember that since this happened on PR tv, it may not be a US film... very possibly it was foreign.

This Dutchman hasn't exactly been flying through the ranks of the sift. Instead he has climbed the ladder slowly with an eclectic collection of obscure music videos, which just makes it even more impressive.

Paul is also a friendly and respectful guy who always seems to keep his cool. He's probably too busy going ice-skating and picking tulips anyway (that's all the dutch national stereotypes I know of ).

Good going, Paul, and congrats on getting to 100 stars! I'm sure we'll see plenty of weird shit promoted from this quality sifter. Be sure to check out his PQUEUE, it desperatly needs some attention.

RedSky recently got to the upper echelon of gold and can now *promote whenever he feels like it.

This sifter has been a member for over 2 years and seems to keep a rather low profile. There's absolutely no need for that, when you write such memorable and funny comments, RedSky!

So I've been noticing that my taste in music is wandering a bit lately. In part because my "standard" bands are slowing in their releases, in part due to getting exposted to Sigor Ros by the sift and (I suspect) in part because I'm getting old. Er. Older.

Anyway, I'm currently getting into breakcore after not really getting it for a while. Complex rhythms are ok, but do they have to change every 2 seconds? Turns out that the breakcore world doesn't just consit of Cdriks diverse projects and Venetian Snares, but there are a few downtempo breakcore projects out there (hard on the border of D'n'B) that are not only quite enjoyable to listen to, but actually quite relaxing as well.

I wanted to share a few recommendations with you here, and would invite you to tell the sift about your current musical wanderings and any pearls that you've discovered but cannot post because there are no (usable) videos flying around.

Detritus: Usually quite downtempo, a nice blend of breaks and (sampled) acoustical instruments. Album recommendation: "Antigen Shift vs. Detritus" and "Threshold". Music examples on Myspace (Try the track "Desolate")

Enduser: More in your face and more emphasis on percussion. I'm very amused by his remixing of Bollywood songs. Recommendations: The "Bollywood Breaks" album and Switch.

Cdatakill: A mix of slow and fast, at times almost dark ambientish, the mood is definitly very dark. Lots of playing with the timing of voice samples. Currently my mainstay of "music to listen to while coding". Album recommendations: "Paradise" and "Valentine". Examples again on Myspace (Try "You are mine").
